What more of a reason do you need? Enjoy! What does your act involve?
I offer two acts for weddings, the first is a 2 hour close-up package and the second is a 45 minute comedy cabaret.
Close-Up Package: This features 2 hours of walk around magic performing for your guests at their tables or during pre-dinner drinks. As the title suggests, this is close-up magic, happening right in front of you, and more often than not, actually in your hands. Everyone has seen magic on TV, but not many people have experienced magic live and certainly not where they are involved in the effect.
Comedy Cabaret: This is a 45 minute act featuring magic and comedy with laughs a plenty involving lots of audience participation. This is ideal for a more intimate wedding where everybody knows each other and the banter and jokes flow.
How long have you been performing as a magician?
I have been performing magic since I was 12 when I appeared in school concerts etc, however formally entertaining at events since I was 18, so 17 years. I am an award winning member of The Magic Circle and a past Northern Magic Circle Close-Up Magician of the Year and I won the 2010 – 2011 Close-Up Magic Champion for the Fylde Mystics.
How many weddings have you performed at?
Over the years I have performed at 100’s of weddings, banquets, dinners, events etc from the most intimate of weddings for 20 people to a room of 500, nothing is too big or small when it comes to entertaining at a wedding.
How can we sample your work?
I am currently in the process of having video added to my website, however I do have a stand at occasional wedding fayres and I give details on my website (www.alanmylecraine.t83.net or Twitter @MylieMagic). It is difficult for people to attend most events I perform at as they are private bookings however I do perform at public events on occasions and I am happy to invite people along to witness me in a working environment.
If guests have seen me perform at a previous event then by all means people can request that I do that particular effect for them, not a problem.
How can you advise a couple who are undecided about styles and formats?
Having performed at 100’s of events there are not many situations I haven’t been asked to work in. I can tailor my show to fit in with the clients’ requirements, whatever they may be. I can use past experiences and advise how I feel the magic would suit their particular wedding.
Describe a typical wedding format so brides and grooms know what to expect.
For the close-up magic I always arrive 30 minutes prior to my start time to familiarise myself with the venue, introduce myself to the staff and wedding party. The close-up magic can be performed during the wedding pictures, when those who are not involved in the majority of the wedding pictures are hanging around. The magic will make your whole wedding party feel involved, and it takes the pressure of the newly married couple from thinking that their guests are not occupied. The magic will make your guests realize that you have thought about them and it creates a great talking point for the rest of the day between all your guests. Another popular time for a close-up magician to entertain is during the wedding breakfast or in the early evening as your guests begin to arrive for the evening reception in the format of mix ‘n’ mingle magic.
The cabaret magic is usually booked for after the speeches whilst everyone is still seated at tables or at the evening reception once your guests have arrived.
Where in the country do you perform?
I perform at weddings and events throughout the UK and regularly travel to events for clients who have seen me previously, with a lot of my bookings coming from word-of-mouth and from those having seen me before.
Would you travel overseas?
I have performed overseas before and should it be requested I am happy to discuss.
What would happen if you were sick on the day of the wedding?
I have never had to cancel a show in all the time I have been performing, however in the unlikely event that I couldn’t attend I would send a friend of mine who is of an equal standard, but like I say, it’s never happened.
I have all my own equipment for performing close-up magic around the tables. Should I be booked for the 45 minute comedy cabaret then I would usually use the hotels/DJ’s microphone and speakers.
Do you carry liability insurance?
As a member of Equity I have liability insurance to the value of £10million; something which I thankfully have never had to use!
Please explain your wedding packages and how can we book you?
I tailor each wedding package and fee to suit each couples individual needs and requirements.
