Broken Dolls Shoot

Well, what an exciting shoot it was on Sunday.  For those of you who are new to Penny’s Wedding, or who have not been reading the blog recently, we popped along to a dark and twisted shoot to lend a hand with modelling and partake in a spot of blogging.  OK, so it’ not really a wedding shoot – not at all in fact, but it was a fun day that I thought I could share with you.

The concept of ‘Broken Dolls’ came from the super duper talented Claire of Rock It Up Photography fame and make-up artist extraordinaire, Candice Fuller.  There were four doll styles in total; Innocent, Broken, Nasty and Rock.

It was an early start for a Sunday, 8:30am, and we travelled to a secret location for the important hair and make-up.  My hair was such a challenge that I had two hairdressers (Rachael and Rob from the Toni and Guy Oxford Salon) working on me at the one time – when you see the pictures, you’ll see why!

A number of hours and chocolate croissants later, we were ready to get into our clothes.  Very cute corsets and tutus awaited us, they may have been a little on the bum baring side for me, but they were perfect for the shoot so I could hardly object.  I just wish I’d had a spray tan the day before as I’m very much on the pale side.

The first of the locations was a cold and derelict basement complete with mould, spiders and bits literally falling off the walls as we posed.  It was darkly set up with old and unloved toy dolls, strewn all over the floor.  I can’t wait to see these shots as the contrast in style will look great.

After many hours of posing in all weird and wonderful ways (it turns out I’m incredibly inflexible), and munching on biscuits and fried chicken, we moved onto a lovely studio.  Here we were greeted with a huge cuddly toy that Bruce Forsyth would be proud of and some much needed heating.

It was a long day and much time and effort was put into the shoot but I’m sure all the hard work will pay off.  I had a ball and would love to do it again.

Here are a couple of behind the scenes images.  They were taken by me and I’m not a photographer, so please excuse any lighting or quality issues!
