Gemma Willis Photography

Today we’re talking wedding photography.  Your wedding pictures are the one physical reminder you will have of your special day and you will get what you pay for, so do your research.  I advise you meet with an experienced photographer before you part with your money.  We’ve been speaking with Gemma Willis (who is so experienced she teaches photography!), so snap her up quickly!

How long have you been photographing weddings?

I have been a photographer for 10 years and I have been specialising in weddings for the past 5 years.  I am a College lecturer and I started out photographing family and friends’ special occasions which naturally turned into a profession.

What is your typical photographic style?

I prefer to be unobtrusive and go unnoticed to capture those natural images from you and your guests which often create the best pieces.   I like to get to know my clients as I believe it is important for you to feel comfortable with your wedding photographer so that I can tailor your images to suit you and your day.

I provide an engagement shoot service with my wedding packages; this is a great opportunity to use the photos to create your own personalised save the date cards!

Do you have a portfolio that we can view?

You can view samples of my work by visiting my website.

How can you advise a couple who are undecided about styles and formats?

I like to meet with the couple for an informal consultation before a booking is confirmed.  I like to get to know the couple and ensure my work style meets their requirements.  I am laid back and enjoy the natural shots and of course I will cover any group shots required.

Describe a typical wedding format so our readers know what to expect.

A typical day will begin with me arriving and photographing the details; bridal dress, shoes, flowers – assuming you have requested I cover the ‘getting ready’ details.

Who exactly will be shooting the wedding?

If you book with me then I will always shoot your wedding.  I do bring an assistant with me as they can help with the organisation of the day (including the group shots which can take time) and I also think it’s important for an inexperienced photographer to gain experience.

In which part of the country do you work?

I am based in Northamptonshire but will cover the whole of the UK.  Travel expenses may be required for events further afield.

Would you travel overseas?

Yes I would travel overseas; in fact I’m travelling to Cyprus this year to shoot a wedding.

What would happen if you were sick on the day of the wedding?

Of course I would always try to attend the wedding but if it were impossible then I have many experienced contacts I could use, assuming this is acceptable with the couple.

What type of camera equipment do you use to shoot weddings?

I always bring two cameras, plenty of batteries, SD cards, flash and reflectors.

Do you carry liability insurance?

Yes, I do.

Can you explain your wedding packages?

As a newlywed myself, I understand that we don’t all fit under one package.  I have some example packages available on my website.  For a full day option (covering bridal preparations to the first dance) and all images on a CD, it would cost £750.  This price increases if you wish to have albums and prints organised.

If you only require 3-4 hours coverage, typically ceremony through to wedding breakfast, this will be £450.

I also offer the option of hiring a Polaroid camera for your wedding reception.  It’s a lovely way of getting your guests to mingle plus the images are available immediately so you can pin them up around your wedding reception as additional decoration.

I do not have any special requirements and I always bring a packed lunch with me!

How soon after the wedding date are the photographs available?

I aim to have all images returned within 2 weeks.  This may be a little longer if I have an extremely high workload however I will advise the couple of their individual return date.

Finally, how can we book you and are any deposits required?

You can contact me through my website and email me at smile@gemmawillisphotography.co.uk

I require a 50% deposit and the remaining balance is due any time before the wedding date.

Special offer – any brides purchasing their wedding dress through Serendipity Brides in Weedon are entitled to a 15% discount!
