Pull out the champers and get the cupcakes on order, not only is it my birthday this week, we’re also celebrating the one year anniversary of the birth of Penny’s Wedding. I can’t believe time has passed so quickly. One year ago I decided to share my love for ‘all things wedding’, not to mention my private diary entries, with the world.
Of course it was incredibly frightening but that soon changed to exhilaration and now I’m simply flabbergasted. Flabbergasted with the positive reaction I’ve received from the wedding industry and all of the lovely brides-to-be.
Penny’s Wedding is written, edited, designed and uploaded to the web by myself so it’s serious hard graft, but very much worth it. I met somebody the other week that was talking to me about a blog they had been reading and was utterly overwhelmed when they said it was called Penny’s Wedding – that’s me!
Over the past year I have designed and redesigned my webpages about 15 times, 6 of which were serious! It takes so much time to change things about but you have to keep changing things until you feel comfortable with them. I can honestly say that I’m very happy with the design of my site so I’ll not be changing it for a while now.
This year has been a whirlwind of fantasy and dream clashing with reality. I have been so lucky with some of the things people have asked me to do; all of which is solely because of Penny’s Wedding. I have been to many exhibitions and wedding fairs, picking up ideas and inspiration along the way to pass back to you guys.
I’ve been extremely fortunate to meet many new industry colleagues, now friends, interviewing them and promoting their super talented businesses through the blog. Many competitions have been organised courtesy of wedding businesses donating prizes for you to win. We’ve had amazing jewellery competitions and given away free tickets to wedding exhibitions. I love wedding competitions because I really get to know my readers and it’s amazing to hear back from the winner. It always puts a smile on my face.
I’ve been sent some amazing items to review. Cakes or foodie products always go down well as I’m a big foodie and I love my cake! I’ve had such pretty items to review including china teacup candles and some really cute decorative items. I love carrying out reviews because I love to be honest with people and I like to pass on as much information as I can to my readers. It gives me an excuse to write in an incredibly descriptive way, which is what I love, plus if I can play a small part in somebody’s wedding plans, then all the better.
If you had said to me that I would be given the opportunity to model I would have laughed in your face. If you had told me that I’d be modelling wedding dresses I probably would have wet myself, but I was given that opportunity and no I didn’t wet myself, but I did do a few celebratory star jumps. I modelled some incredible dresses and have an experience I will never forget. I’m hoping to do it again but I won’t be disappointed as I’ve had my time in the spotlight.
Finally, the last opportunity I have been given is advancing into wedding planning. I’ve been saying I’d love to be a wedding planner since I was a teenager but never actually thought that it would be possible. I thought wedding planning was just for people who lived in huge cities and were mega rich but how wrong was I. Since the beginning of this year I have added three brides to my wedding planning portfolio and I love it. This is definitely the industry for me and I will grasp hold of it for as long as I can.
I would never have these opportunities if it wasn’t for Penny’s Wedding. It might be distasteful to praise myself but I’m so incredibly proud that I have turned a dream into a growing reality. I know the journey will be long and tough but I also know it will be worth it. To do something you love as a living will be the ultimate goal so thank you readers for helping my dreams to come true!
