We love getting to know fabulous wedding suppliers and today we’re telling you more about the very talented Jodie Brennan. We challenged her to some questions and here’s what she had to say!
Thank you to speaking to Penny’s Wedding, please tell us more about yourself
I began my photography career in 2003 after developing a keen interest in photography whilst studying at university in Manchester. I began working as an image retoucher for a well-known lifestyle portrait company, I then made the move to photographer and within a couple of years I was Style Director for the studio and looking after our brilliant photography team!
I am obsessed with photographing people and absolutely love weddings so I can’t complain about my job one bit. I also love to photograph families and love the variety that can bring, from 1st birthday cake smash shoots to maternity and newborn sessions, there’s never a dull moment.
How long have you been photographing weddings?
I photographed my first wedding in 2007 and haven’t looked back since!
What is your typical photographic style?
My style is very unobtrusive and natural, I like to capture your wedding day as it unfolds and I tend not to ‘set-up’ too many shots if it can be helped. Although I do use some flash photography when required, I favour natural light and the gorgeous softness achieved with shallow depth of field.
Where do you get your inspiration from?
I am obsessed with magazines and love to tear images out and create mood boards, I also love Pinterest and follow a variety of fashion, craft and photography blogs. I love to source interesting props and also make things that can be used in my shoots, this week has been filled with multicolour paper chains and an array of moustaches on sticks for upcoming shoots. I also lecture in photography so my students certainly keep me on my toes creativity wise.
Do you have a portfolio that we can view?
How can you advise a couple who are undecided about styles and formats?
I like to meet with every couple beforehand where possible, we go through my printed portfolio and albums and discuss what type of things they like or don’t like, what ideas they have for their big day so far and I also encourage them to show me any images they have found or seen elsewhere to gather a clear idea of what they are about and their style as a couple.
Who exactly will be shooting the wedding?
Me! I am the principal photographer at Jodie Brennan Photography. Weekend bookings will also have a second shooter/assistant with me on the day.
In which part of the country do you work and would you travel overseas?
I mainly cover Staffordshire and the Midlands but have travelled around England and Wales for weddings including Gloucester, Blackburn and most recently, Liverpool. I would travel overseas if required.
What would happen if you were sick on the day of the wedding?
It would have to be something quite serious to prevent me from attending a wedding shoot. If this did happen however I have two photographers of equal quality and style (so good that I asked them to shoot my own wedding) who would step in and cover for me with no added hassle or worry for the couple.
What type of camera equipment do you use to shoot weddings?
I have two camera bodies, a Nikon D700 and a Nikon D300 as a back-up. I also use a range of Nikon lenses including my favourite 50mm lens and a 300mm lens for catching more natural (stealth mode) images of guests and family.
Do you carry liability insurance?
Yes I have both public liability and professional indemnity policies.
Can you explain what is covered in your wedding packages?
Every wedding is different so I like to keep my service flexible. I offer a 4, 6 or 8 hour package to allow couples to select the right amount of coverage for their day and capture what is important to them. I always ask each couple to provide a list of definite ‘must have’ group shots and a list of
VIPs in advance of their wedding. All packages include the disc of all images (images are high-resolution & printable) Albums are available at an additional cost but there is no obligation to purchase these. Bespoke solutions are available on request.
How soon after the wedding date are the photographs available?
Within 3 weeks of the wedding and no later.
Finally, how can we book you and are any deposits required?
To have a chat, arrange a meeting or for further information please contact email@example.com or call 07773 064280.
Thank you for your time Jodie.
