Nuts about Sweets

Who loves a good old pic ‘n’ mix sweet treat?  Have you thought about a sweet cart for your wedding reception?  Full of fun, laughter and perhaps most importantly, sweets!  Nuts about Sweets hire out their fantastic sweet cart which is jam packed full of sweet or savoury options.  It’s a great addition to your wedding reception and can also double up as your guest favours.  Read on for further information.

1.  Tell us about Nuts about Sweets?

Nuts about Sweets were launched in July 2011 and is run by my husband and me.  We married this year and after much research we understood that sweets are a popular wedding attraction, however there isn’t much variety in the UK, especially in Suffolk, where we are based, that provides sweets in a fun and unique way.

Other companies around the UK have similar products to Nuts about Sweets; however their carts are not as personalised and adaptable to the same standard as ours.  We try to be as adaptable as possible to fit in with any event and keep costs down as much as possible as we are aware how expensive weddings can be! 

My husband and his father are both carpenters so putting their skills to good use; we built a sweet cart exactly to our specifications.  It was important to us that the cart was compact and practical (it comes apart so can be set up anywhere), and also painted white so it fits in with any colour scheme.  Our website and advertising material is designed and created by myself, so together me and my husband control the entire business.

Our aim is to provide something fun and unique for weddings, and sweets are always going to be popular.  We also decided to provide savoury options as people love having nuts or crisps to munch on, especially after a few drinks! We provide all the traditional and retro sweets as well as pub favourites.  The cart is not only fun for the bride and groom but guests will love it too and hopefully they will leave the wedding thinking how fun that day was and how well the bride and groom looked after their guests.

2.  What areas of the UK do you cover?

We are based in Suffolk and the majority of our business is within East Anglia, however we are willing to travel anywhere.  The first 15 miles for delivery and collection are free and each mile thereafter is charged at only 50p.  If you are based within 15 miles of Red Lodge, Suffolk, you will benefit from free delivery, collection and set up costs!  Our wedding favours are available to anyone as these can simply be posted.

3.  What products are available?

One cart can be hired out and filled with a selection of 12 different sweet and/or savoury items.  We have two carts which would hold up to 24 different items therefore we can easily cater for larger events and weddings.  We also have a variety of additional goodies; a chuppa chup stand containing 200 lollies, 3 extra bins for each cart allowing you to have extra sweet or savoury choices and sweet cups instead of bags which can also be personalised.

In October 2011 we launched our sweet themed wedding favours.  We have 4 different options all of which are personalised to add that extra special touch to your day.  We offer personalised mini loveheart sweets detailing the bride and grooms name, the wedding date and a ‘thank you for sharing our special day’ message.  We have jelly bean cones filled with 100g of colourful jelly beans and tied with a ribbon of your choice with a personalised poem attached.  Also we have mini glass sweet jars filled with either dolly mixture or jelly beans complete with a ribbon of your choice and the bride and groom names and wedding date on the lid.

Our most popular sweetie favour is the retro bucket.  This is a mini ivory bucket filled with a drumstick, refresher, black jack chew, fruit salad chew and mini lovehearts.  An ivory tag is tied to the bucket with ribbon and you can either have ‘Just Married’ written on them or we can print individual place names on them – this is a fantastic way of saving pennies!

4.  What packages and prices are available?

We want to let people have their ideal package so we have detailed our standard packages on the website; however, we give people a wide choice of products so they can have exactly what they want.  We are very flexible and if there are any sweet or savoury items you would like that we do not have, let us know and if we can get it, you can certainly have it!

Included in the price of each of our packages is the following:
– Hire of the wooden cart. We set up and collect at a time convenient for you.
– 12 Pick N Mix containers
– Your choice of 12 sweet and/or savoury items (over 60 varieties to choose from)
– Your choice of striped roof from red, blue and green
– Your choice of white or striped paper bags
– All scoops and tongs needed
– First 15miles delivery and collection FREE, totalling 30 free miles.
– Any sweets/savoury snacks left at the end of the event we bag up and you take home so you get exactly what you pay for!

Our standard sweet cart is £250.  We do have a special offer retro cart for £230 which includes 12 retro favourites; all details are on our website.  Our savoury cart is slightly more expensive and prices start from £260.  You can also have a combination package of sweet and savoury.  We ask people to contact us with their choices and we will put together a quote however the price is typically no higher than £260.

5.  Roughly how many sweets would we receive?

For weddings we always give enough sweets for 150 guests.  This normally allows guests to help themselves as often as they like and of course, anything leftover would be yours.  We can cater for small and larger parties so if you do require fewer sweets then we would be able to reduce the price and the quantity of sweets.

6.  Do you have maximum/minimum numbers to cater for?

We don’t really have maximum or minimum number restrictions, however if we have a request for a very small party we will notify them that the cart will more than likely have less sweets and may not be as visually pleasing than a fuller cart.

7.  Will somebody be available to run the stand, serve my guests and replenish supplies?

We tend not to run the cart as we don’t want to be attending someone else’s wedding and getting in the way.  We find it is much more fun when the cart is set up and left there and guests feel more relaxed helping themselves to the cart.  If however there is an extremely large party we would stay at the event so are on hand to refill the cart when necessary.  If this were the case then we would charge a small fee for our time.
