Good morning, how are we all today? It feels like it been such a long week, so we’re very much looking forward to the bank holiday weekend. A little while ago we featured an award winning engagement shoot and today we bring you an exclusive interview with Sweetness and Light Photography.
Thank you for speaking to Penny’s Wedding, it’s a real honour. Our readers are keen to know more about you. How long have you been photographing weddings?
I Launched Sweetness & Light’s wedding photography services in January 2012 and I have been a photographer for 6 years.
What is your typical photographic style?
My photographic style is to capture the beauty of the day, with a dash of eclectic.
Where do you get your inspiration from?
I am also a fashion photographer and creative stylist, having studied this area during my university days, I always seem drawn to the fashion photographer greats as well as old portrait masters.
Do you have a portfolio that we can view?
Sweetness & Light’s portfolio can be viewed via our website.
How can you advise a couple who are undecided about styles and formats?
My best advice is to choose a photographer whose style and creativeness you feel best suits you both as a couple. When you look through a photographer’s portfolio you should think “I have to have it!!!!” if you don’t get excited, then move on! For example, if the photographer’s style is contemporary and you have traditional expectations, you are not going to be in love with the end product. My goal for Sweetness & Light is to create beautiful photography for couples to truly love, and that capture their day flawlessly.
Who exactly will be shooting the wedding?
I am the main photographer of Sweetness & Light, but we have a lovely second shooter for selected collections.
In which part of the country do you work? Would you travel overseas?
Sweetness & Light shoot all over the UK. My goodness, I would love to travel overseas. I would shoot a wedding for nothing if it meant I could travel to a new place and photograph interesting locations and people!
What would happen if you were sick on the day of the wedding?
I have an unshakeable work ethic, especially when it comes to being sick. Since I started working at the age of 15, I have had a total of 2 days off! The show must go on!! If I was hospital bound, then I would use my contacts to find another wedding photographer, who I would only be happy with myself, on my wedding day.
What type of camera equipment do you use?
Sweetness & Light shoots digital, as we are incredibly proud of our post process skills. Rest assured there is no excessive airbrushing, as I want you to look like you! But my images can be picked out by the beautiful coloring and editing.
I tend to stay away from flash as it seems to distract guests and the bride and groom. I go for the incognito approach and always try to blend into the crowd to truly capture the day, with the exception of any requested traditional poses. I want to capture the soul and love on your wedding day, not the ‘brush stuck up your bum’ posed shots!
Do you carry liability insurance?
Yes, of course.
Can you explain what is covered in your wedding packages?
Our most popular collection so far provides a complimentary award winning engagement shoot, this is a valuable session for both the photographer and you as a couple.
Firstly, you will be presented with a beautiful collection of images with industry quality editing which can be used for invites and wedding décor items.
Secondly, for you as a couple you probably aren’t photographed all the time. It can be quite unnerving to all of a sudden have a camera looking at you. These sessions are built to put you at ease and relax you! So when it comes your wedding day, you will be comfortable in front of the camera and the natural ‘you’ will shine through.
And thirdly, most importantly; I can get to you know. Your likes, dislikes, personalities, preferred styles etc. It is my job to create beautiful wedding photography full of soul that reflects you both as a couple. A two hour shoot really works wonders, building a lovely rapport and friendship.
On the day of your wedding, we offer coverage from bridal preparations right though to the first dance. Shortly after your big day, I edit a lovely photograph of you both and send a copy to the couple, as the brides are always dying to see their photographs! Your disc of images comes with unlimited personal printing rights, and industry quality editing.
We also offer beautiful artisan created albums hand crafted in the Big Apple. These are available upon request. I pride myself on creating a tailored experience for every bride and groom as I fully understand that not everybody wants the same. We are flexible around you and your day. Feel free to contact me with your requirements and I will create something special and just for you.
How soon after the wedding date are the photographs available?
I work on a 6 week turnaround as I put a lot of time and effort into my editing.
Finally, how can we book you and are any deposits required?
I always encourage my couples to call for a quick chat, or email with any questions before booking; choosing your photographer is a huge commitment and it has to be right!
Deposits are 25% of the collection cost, and full payment is required (cleared) 6 weeks before your booked date.
Thank you for sharing your work with Penny’s Wedding.
