Tell us about The Doo-Wop Dolls
We are Charlotte, Mel & Louise, a female trio from Brighton taking inspiration from the girl groups of the 1950’s & 1960’s.
How long have you been performing for?
The Doo-Wop Dolls have been together over five years now. In 2010 we had a break for maternity leave and original Doll, Jan, moved to Austria so we asked Charlotte, Mel’s sister to join. So, in this line-up, about a year.
How many events have you performed at?
Loads! Some stand-outs would be corporate events for RSA House & Boots, cabaret at The Royal Vauxhall Tavern, numerous weddings in venues like Herstmonceaux Castle and even the Birmingham NEC!
How can we hear a sample of your work?
What style of songs do you perform?
We perform 50’s & 60’s girl group sounds, like The Shirelles and The Ronettes as well as modern covers arranged in our unique Doo-Wop Dolls style.
Will you perform specific songs requested by guests?
Yes, guests can choose from our set lists and we also offer a bespoke service which is particularly popular with brides whereby we arrange a song of your choice to perform at your big day and we can even include a recording of it as a keepsake.
How can you advise a couple who are undecided about musical styles and formats?
I would advise you think about what music you like as a couple and see if you can make your taste more palatable for your guests – for example, your favourite Metallica song sung by a kitsch Doo-Wop girl group!….might work?
Describe a typical wedding format so our readers know what to expect
Often couples hire us to sing during their ceremony, mainly a cappella. We can then provide either background entertainment for a drinks reception or an after dinner show using backing tracks before your traditional disco kicks in.
Where in the country do you cover? Would you travel overseas?
The Doo-Wop Dolls are mainly based in the South of England but we are open to offers!
What would happen if you were sick or unable to attend on the day of the wedding?
It is likely that if one of us were ill we would be able to arrange cover so that the show could go on.
What equipment do you provide?
We can provide our own mics if needed but would usually expect to use an in-house PA system.
Do you carry liability insurance?
Explain what is included in your wedding packages and the pricing structure
We have a set fee for the ceremony or drinks reception and then an hourly rate thereafter. Brides have a choice of three outfits we can wear.
