Dodmoor House – Review

Dodmoor House is the idyllic exclusive country farm wedding venue, located in the heart of England, close to Northampton and situated just off the A5 but not so close that it intrudes on your country style setting.  In honesty you would have no idea that you are located thirty seconds from a main road as you are surrounded by hundreds of trees, miles of fields and even the Grand Union Canal, so there really is zero traffic noise.

As you leave the A5 you are well signposted to your destination.  You amble down a narrow single track road, over the canal bridge and Dodmoor House appears almost instantly on your right hand side.  As strange as it sounds, there is a beautiful car parking area which is well looked after and in keeping with the country charm.  First impressions of this venue are ‘goose bump’ worthy.

The entrance is a garden style courtyard which is beautiful and filled with patio heaters, a variety of flowers, trees, candles and fairy lights complete the welcoming atmosphere.  I was very comfortable entering this venue and I imagine a wedding party would feel the same.  The landscaped grounds are extensive, offering plenty of garden space and I believe the venue is so beautiful that candle light is all that is needed to enhance the romantic mood.  You could of course decorate however you feel but my advice on this one is to let the venue speak for itself – less is more!  As you stand in the courtyard the ceremony barn is on your left, the Catesby barn (used for the wedding breakfast) and mezzanine bar is directly opposite and the honeymoon suite is to your right.  All rooms overlook the courtyard patio area and create a unique ‘U’ shaped style venue.

The ceremony barn boast exposed brickwork and rafters as well as gorgeous views of the courtyard on one side and the rolling countryside on the other side.  The room can comfortably seat 75 guests and is a very intimate space without feeling claustrophobic.  A further bonus is the five glass double doors opening directly onto the patio area.  Should the weather be kind to you in the summer, these could be open during your ceremony.  In the winter the barn has under floor heating to ensure all guests are nice and cosy.  I adore the decoration of this room.  It’s very clean and minimalist with heart decorations hanging from the walls and tea lights on the window sills so it really wouldn’t need any further decoration.  The furniture is beautiful and compliments the rustic feel of the barn so no need to purchase additional chair covers unless it’s something you want.

The 400 year old Catesby barn has been converted to offer a versatile setting for wedding breakfast and evening receptions.  The barn links with the mezzanine bar and Ceremony barn so if it were to rain there would be no need for you or your guests to venture outside.  Larger weddings have the option of extended dining space by using a marquee otherwise the venue will hold up to 90 guests for the wedding breakfast.  Fairy lights decorate the exposed ceiling beams and balcony railings.  Decorations of your choice can be hung from the pulley systems in the centre of the room.  An audio system plays music inside and outside in the courtyard.  Should you decide you could use an iPod or similar device to control your musical selections.  Live music is a possible option also with the Juliet balcony being an ideal location for a string quartet.

The mezzanine Bar is at first floor level and is deceivingly large.  It’s open all day and is the ideal space for guests to chat and relax away from the evening reception yet not missing out on anything as you can overlook the party from the Juliet balcony.  Bar prices are in line with town pubs so there is no fear of being ripped off.  There are also the options of bringing your own drinks (no corkage fees charged) or purchasing the ‘all you can drink’ package for a fixed price.  It’s flexibility like this that allows you complete control and relaxation when planning your wedding.  There’s nothing worse than other people telling you what you should and shouldn’t do.

The honeymoon suite is included with the venue hire and it epitomises the ultimate luxurious start to married life.  There is an abundance of space ideal for the bridal party to get ready on the morning of the wedding.  A large bathroom, bedroom and dressing room awaits your arrival.  You can clearly see that the team have thought of all scenarios as the dressing room changes to a child’s play room throughout the wedding celebrations.  The room is lockable from the other sections of the honeymoon suite and is also in safe distance to leave your children whilst enjoying a drink or a dance.  The personal touch is prevalent at this venue.  All the minor aspects that could turn to major issues have been well thought out in advance.  There are complimentary bed, breakfast and snacks available throughout your stay.

Dodmoor House stage open evenings every few months to give you the opportunity to meet with their recommended suppliers.  The evenings are themed meaning you can attend as many or a few as you choose.  They work with a set of recommended caterers however it is not necessary that you hire them as you can hire the kitchen and supply your own caterers.  Dodmoor House welcome the unique and unusual menu selections; hog roasts and sweet shops are some of the most popular choices this year.  They actively support other local businesses, building links with a number of local pubs and hotels.  The hotels offer discounted rates and even a complimentary taxi service to and from the venue.  It is this level of support that makes Dodmoor House unique from other venues.

Mark and the team at Dodmoor House are very accommodating.  They truly understand the importance of your wedding day and want you to have the best experience possible.  They offer invaluable advice without stepping on your toes or infringing on any of your ideas.  We only get married once (ideally) but Mark and the team witness many weddings each year so it’s well worth taking notes from them. You receive a dedicated wedding planner two months before your wedding to discuss all the finer details; of course the team are available for contact at any stage during your wedding planning.

Dodmoor House offers exquisite quality but at affordable pricing.  If you are looking for a quality venue with experience, friendly faces and a team that really care about you and your wedding then Dodmoor House is the wedding venue you have been looking for.  Viewing this venue was an absolute pleasure and somewhere I would have loved to have had my own wedding.
