Fawsley Hall – Review

Set deep in the heart of rural Northamptonshire, Fawsley Hall, which is licensed for civil ceremonies, epitomises the luxurious country house hotel.  With 2,000 acres of picturesque countryside, it really is a special romantic hideaway and perfect for a country wedding.  Fawsley Church (available for wedding ceremonies) looms lovingly in the background and the immediate views surrounding the estate are beautiful with many photographic opportunities.

Fawsley Hall is steeped in history and tradition with many of the buildings showcasing original features.  Driving from the main road down the country track, and arriving at Fawsley Hall is like stepping back in time.  If it were not for the modern cars parked around the grounds, you would believe you had stepped back into the 18th Century.

With The Main House, Knightly Court, 58 bedrooms, a fully fledged spa (brid, extensive gardens and even tennis courts, this venue can certainly accommodate the larger wedding party.  Fawsley Hall is a flexible wedding venue allowing you the opportunity to hire the entire hotel and grounds for exclusive use or you can hire just the one room – the choice is yours.

The grounds surrounding Fawsley Hall boast superb views at all angles.  The croquet lawn, situated at the front of the house, is a perfect helipad for those guests who want to arrive in style.  This lawn area also provides solid ground for picture opportunities with either Fawsley Hall, the acres of English countryside or Fawsley Church in the background.  There are numerous undercover photo areas for when the weather is not ideal.  The gardens towards the back of the house are stunning.  There are numerous seating areas as well as the tennis courts. Photographic opportunities are in abundance at Fawsley Hall so there is no need to worry about having any bad pictures.

The Tudor Great Hall is a communal part of the main house and is lavishly grand in sight and structure.  Many of the features of this room are original or reclaimed, in particular the woodwork.  The ceilings are high and the room is light and airy yet cosy which surprised me for such a large area.  Soft music, comfy chairs, books and board games give the room a really relaxing feel somewhat reminiscent of being at your grandparents’ house.  A civil ceremony in this room would look amazing as the layout would allow for spectacular views overlooking the grounds.  If not using this room for a ceremony, it makes for a relaxing pre or post wedding guest area. For exclusive use of this room you would have to hire the entire Main House.

Knightly Court is a self contained Grade 1 listed Georgian building with its own kitchen, bedrooms, reception area and even a small cinema area.  Unfortunately during this visit I was unable to view the entire estate due to there being many customer bookings so I will return at a later date to provide a thorough review.  Of the rooms I saw, Knightly Court is incredibly large with plenty of room for guests to mingle and it would be perfect for an exclusive wedding.

The bedrooms located within Fawsley Hall are of exceptional standards with each room having its own unique decor and personality.  I particularly like that dogs are welcomed in the hotel.  It’s not often that you can find a hotel where your dog is able to travel with you.  All expected amenities are available and if there is anything missing, the team are very helpful and will adhere to meet your requirements.

The catering available at Fawsley is highly recommended therefore it would be unlikely that you would wish to hire external suppliers however should you wish too then that’s your choice and Fawsley Hall support your decision to have your day, your way.  I have been assured that catering options are flexible and a consultation is expected with all wedding bookings.  Prices start from £7.50 pp for canapés and range up to £35.25 for a main course.

Fawsley Hall is extremely luxurious and has a higher-than-average price tag attached to its wedding packages; a standard exclusive Saturday wedding in the Knightly Court will cost you £5,000 for the venue hire.  Exclusive use of the entire estate starts at £10,000.  A budget is important to most brides so whilst this is not a criticism, it is something that I feel should be pointed out.  The areas of the hotel that I did view were well maintained, beautiful and peaceful.  Fawsley Hall is the perfect location for a secluded yet luxurious wedding.  Viewing is highly recommended.  Call Helen Wallace 01327 892027 for an appointment.
